Thanks for all the replies! @redyellowblue: are you still baptist? I say open-minded, but I've been pretty lazy in my "seeking." I need to work on it. @markb4: yep, that's it. It's a quote from Bilbo's speech in The Fellowship. I definitely recommend the movies, and the books if you're into that genre, though the series requires a certain amount of trudging (I admit, I never finished it, though I mean to someday). @Sweety: wow, we seem to have a lot in common. Thanks for the encouragement and I'll do my best to keep posting! I can't label myself either, really, but because I'm not sure right now what to believe. @April: thanks! As is yours. And same here. I honestly didn't know there would be TWO more parts until recently. I'll probably re-read The Hobbit sometime soon. That's perfectly fine. I do too, apparently, once I get going. lol Thanks again!
Matthew replied to Sally's topic in Religious TopicsI'm going to have to look this article over more thoroughly when I have time. Number 3 really hit home. "Many self-proclaimed "truth seekers" unintentionally assume that they are more intellectually sincere than firm believers. As G.K. Chesterton pointed out in his book, Orthodoxy: “Merely having an open mind is nothing. The object of opening the mind, as of opening the mouth, is to shut it again on something solid.†^This. I like to think I'm intellectually sincere and open-minded, but I think more often I'm just intellectually lazy.. I spoke to my dad once about my "crisis of faith" that started my senior year of high school. He's confident I'll come out of it a firm Christian, as he did in his college days. Anyone on here go/going through something similar? Thanks for posting this, Sally!
