What is your career?

I'm only 19 - way too young for a career! But for those who do have one, what is it? Do you enjoy it? Why did you choose it?

I don't have one yet, but my main goal in life is to get married and be the best husband I can be!

I'm a social worker. I am currently licensed at the Masters level, which makes finding a job easier. I currently work in hospice. I am working towards clinical licensure, which will allow me to practice psychotherapy. For me, that is when my career will truly begin.

I enjoy it because it is such a broad field. We work with children, adults, the elderly, mentally ill, disabled, etc. I chose it because I've always known that I wanted to work in a helping profession, but was never interested in medicine, nursing, etc. The social work profession is interesting because it wasn't always recognized as a profession. Many people think it's a 'trade', and that anyone who has worked with kids or the elderly can be a social worker. But, there are ethics, theories, and rules of practice that can only be learned through a formal social work education. It can be risky/dangerous to practice without having that knowledge.

It can be a challenging job, because people believe we can fix everything...that we know everything. There's a saying: "I'm a social worker, not a freaking magician..." LOL... or, "Is my degree in social work or paperwork?"

Funny, but true!

But, at the end of the day, I can sleep peacefully at night, knowing I helped someone.

Professional loser at the moment. Just kidding...kind of :)

I'm unemployed right now but taking classes to get certified to do computer programming.

That is my ultimate goal in life as well. Though I would like to add being the best father to go with it, but I'm sure you want that too, mark :)

Can we say what we plan on our career being?

I'm applying to go back to school in the Fall. I'm going to be an Embryologist. I'm soooo passionate about this. I'm not stopping until I get there!

I'm working a couple of part time jobs until I can apply to be a teacher in my hometown. The list to hire teachers is the only way to get a teaching job here, and sometimes it doesn't even open each year... :(

So I guess I'd go with aspiring teacher :)

I'm a teacher and I love it. I think I wanted to be one ever since I was little. I had other options in mind but this one was always my first choice. I chose it because I love working with children and because I'm able to invest in their lives and education and watch them learn daily. Besides, the major I have is very flexible so I will never get bored :)

I am currently a junior in college, so not quite there yet! But I am someday going to be a music therapist :) My ultimate goal is to work in a hospital setting in pediatrics or NICU but we'll see where I end up because music therapists can work in so many different places and I'll take what I can get, lol.

Currently, I keep a chair warm. But if I could actually have a career it would be working in the Non-Profit Sector. I have worked in it before for contract positions and loved it. I focused on Festival work.

Aspiring chef/ currently a line cook.

I always joke with people that my husband needs to be a chef because I hate working in the kitchen so much. I just hate making food, and the more I think about it, the more I realize I may have to marry a chef or a cook or whatever because my kids are not going to be eating good food if I have to do all the cooking and baking. lol. Either that or I marry a super rich guy who can afford a private chef (maybe I like that idea better.) XD

I am a teacher. It is a challenging, exhausting career, and it definitely has its disadvantages... but at the same time, I love it! I feel like this is what I was called to do.

I'm studying rocket science. Considering the up and down nature of the civilian space industry, though, I'll probably just end up doing computer programming.

I currently work for my dad's company...which is commercial real estate leasing and we also manage some construction jobs as well. But business is kinda slow in this economy...looking for something else if I can find it. I have a business degree in entrepeurship and management....so I'm kinda looking for a consulting type position ideally. Have a few leads...we shall see!!

I am still an undergrad in college...but my life's ambition is to practice medicine. Since different specialties are hard to get a residency (basically shadowing a doctor in that field and learning from them after I am already an MD), I'm really not sure what kind of doctor I will end up being. Anyway, my top choices right now are anesthesiologist, ophthalmologist, and dermatologist.

My other life's ambition, like most people here, is to be the best mother and wife I can be!

I'm a Respiratory Therapist.

I want to go even further in medical science though. I'm also considering anesthesiology... as well as emergency medicine and internal medicine. I occasionally imaging teaching medical science also.

As of now I am a student...in the future a pediatric pulmonologist/research physician. I want my area to span into immunology and pulmonology. I plan to do a MD/PhD.

I graduated this last spring in April with a degree in Earth/Environmental Sciences, had a short term contract for the summer, and have been searching for a Job since it ended. The latest possibility is as an Environmental officer at a coal mine my friend works at, but assuming I get a job in my field it'll either be as an Environmental consultant, Hydrologist, hydrogeologist, or some sort of environmental officer/scientist type job - really there are lots of options and potential career paths, and people in the career usually do swap around a bit, ie do some exploration geology, then switch to hydrogeology, then work as a consultant etc.

currently in undergrad, studying economics. I plan to become an economist and work for the IMF or another international organization...though this will only happen if I get off the internet and start finishing the insane amount of work I need to do, hahaha.
