Hey! Just wondering if anyone here knows the game Mornington Crescent? Hopefully someone else can play along with me... The rules are pretty simple to pick up. There's probably a copy of NF Stovold’s Mornington Crescent: Rules and Origins at your local bookstore, or The Little Book of Mornington Crescent by Tim, Graeme, Barry and Humph. Also, Google is your friend! But just play along, even if you're not clear on the rules. I'll keep you right Okay, I'll start! We'll go from Kew Gardens, since that's on the London Overground and the District line. A King Arthur's parallel is a good move to start with, I think. More opportunities for whoever goes next. And here is a map of the London Tube: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/standard-tube-map.gif xxx
Hey, guys! I heard of this game online. It's weird, but kind of fun, so I figured I'd post it. Basically, you take an iPod (other brands of MP4 player are available), stick it on Shuffle, and let it play through some songs. You match those songs up to a list of questions, in the order they're played. You are absolutely, positively, not allowed to cheat! No skipping songs, or picking the question to suit the song. Most of the answers aren't going to make any sense, but some will, and that's the fun! Plus, it means we all get to have a look at what kind of weird songs everyone has on their iPod. Okay, here's the questions. I just picked them from a few lists online, so feel free to suggest more! 1. What is your name? 2. Where were you born? 3. What do your friends think of you? 4. What do your enemies think of you? 5. Where would you most like to be right now? 6. What is the best thing about you? 7. What should you do with your life? 8. What do you avoid if possible? 9. What is the main reason you were born? 10. Where will you be in 24 hours? 11. Where will you be in 24 years? 12. What couldn't you live without? 13. Name a song that you want to play at your wedding? 14. What will you name your first child? 15. How will you die? 16. What will your dying words be? 17. What song will they play at your funeral? 18. What's your biggest regret? 19. Who do you admire? 20. What do people assume when they first look at me? 21. What is some good advice for me? 22. What will be a big challenge in life for me? 23. What is my sexual preference? 24. What do you say when life gets tough? 25. What is the story of your life? And, here were my results. Most make no sense, but some were weirdly accurate... What is your name? – The Phantom of the Opera, Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford (My iPod knows me very well) Where were you born? – Good Luck Charm, Elvis Presley (Random, but still a pretty good song) What do your friends think of you? – Polka Power!, “Weird Al†Yankovic (I'm pleased with this one, because it's probably the most upbeat and fun song ever) What do your enemies think of you? – The Phantom of the Opera, Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler (Yeah, I have about four different versions of Phantom on my iPod. And people hate me for it) Where would you most like to be right now? – The Dangling Conversation, Simon and Garfunkel (This is pretty interesting. This is a song all about literature. And I would most like to be at a writing conference, or something...) What is the best thing about you? – Run Away, Spamalot soundtrack (Random. Or maybe I'm really good at running away from trouble?) What should you do with your life? – Come With Me, Spamalot soundtrack (So I've to go and become a knight. Fun fun fun...) What do you avoid if possible? – Love Story, Taylor Swift (Oh, dear...I love romance. Unless it's referring to all that teen-vampire-werewolf-ghost-zombie-alien-angel dark romance nonsense...) What is the main reason you were born? – A Whole New World, Disney soundtrack (To see a whole new world, or to make the world new? Hmm...) Where will you be in 24 hours? – Chu-Chi Face, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang sountrack (In 24 hours, I'll have a boyfriend/husband who calls me lots of cute names...) Where will you be in 24 years? – Cops and Robbers, The Hoosiers (42, and on the run from the police) What couldn't you live without? – all alone, Gorrilaz (Brilliant! I hate being alone) Name a song that you want to play at your wedding? – The Art of Suicide, Emilie Autumn (It's going to be a very cheerful wedding, then) What will you name your first child? – Pretty Fly For a Rabbi, “Weird Al†Yankovic (Random. The main character in the song is called 'Bernie', though, and I hate that name...) How will you die? – A Poem on the Underground Wall, Simon and Garfunkel (I shall get hit by a subway train) What will your dying words be? – Apeman, The Kinks (That's a catchy little song. Something fun to sing once the train has hit me...) What song will they play at your funeral? – Kathy’s Song, Simon and Garfunkel (that's actually a nice little song. Could do a lot worse...) What's your biggest regret? – Overs, Simon and Garfunkel (Kind of random. Also, I'm beginning to think I have too much Simon and Garfunkel on my iPod) Who do you admire? – Can’t Help Falling in Love, Elvis Presley (Random. But a pretty song) What do people assume when they first look at me? – He is Not Dead Yet, Spamalot (True. I am not dead yet. But apparently, they also think I'm a man, so...) What is some good advice for me? – Sweet About Me, Gabriella Cilmi (Random. I'm not even sure I like this song.) What will be a big challenge in life for me? – Temper, Temper, Mary Poppins soundtrack (Yeah, my temper isn't good...) What is my sexual preference? – A Well Respected Man, The Kinks (Indeed. I do like respectable men. Although...Hang on, the song is supposed to be ironic. So do I like respectable men, or men who appear respectable but really aren't? I'm so confused...) What do you say when life gets tough? – My Life Would Suck Without You, Kelly Clarkson (Who's "you" in this scenario? Life itself? Because, yeah, my life would suck without life...) What is the story of your life? – Voices in the Sky, The Moody Blues (A pretty song about pretty songs. I wonder what it all means...) xxx
